Advendscalender 2008 ChristmasWindowCardFront

Last day was the 1. advent. So here the first candle and I wish you all a great start in the new month.

Christmas is a time for love and fun,
A time to reshape souls and roots and skies,
A time to give your heart to everyone

Freely, like a rich and lavish sun,
Like a burning star to those whose lonely sighs
Show need of such a time for love and fun.

For children first, whose pain is never done,
Whose bright white fire of anguish never dies,
It's time to give your heart to every one,

That not one angel fall, to hatred won
For lack of ears to listen to her cries,
Or arms to carry him towards love and fun,

Or friends to care what happens on the run
To adult life, where joy or sadness lies.
It's time to give your heart to everyone,

For God loves all, and turns His back on none,
Good or twisted, ignorant or wise.
Christmas is a time for love and fun,
A time to give your heart to everyone.

And now it's Robbie time:

Make it Snow !

The Christ-child lay on Mary's lap,
His hair was like a light.
(O weary, weary were the world,
But here is all aright.)

The Christ-child lay on Mary's breast
His hair was like a star.
(O stern and cunning are the kings,
But here the true hearts are.)

The Christ-child lay on Mary's heart,
His hair was like a fire.
(O weary, weary is the world,
But here the world's desire.)

The Christ-child stood on Mary's knee,
His hair was like a crown,
And all the flowers looked up at Him,
And all the stars looked down

Falling Snow
by
Alan Williams

See how they fall
An infinity of heavenly aspirations
Come to convert the world
With a deep and even purity.
Sent to nullify and cleanse
To enhance and beautify
To muffle and calm
With the tranquillity
Of a gossamer eiderdown.
To cloak in a mystery
Of endless variations
Of the same tonal theme;
Converting everything
To a glistening coalescence.
Tidying up the farmyard
Smoothing out the fields
Transmogrifying neglected gardens
Into dazzling showpieces,
Cluttered garden sheds
Into sparkling summer-houses,
Making abandoned bean sticks
As elegant as sculptured crystal,
And fondant death-traps
Of old familiar ponds
Enhancing the weary timothy
In the sad neglected churchyard.
Cheering up the stories
On the long forgotten grave stones.
Turning distant spires
Into alabaster space rockets
And drooping telephone lines
Into crystal mooring ropes
For ocean going bungalows.
The purification is complete, unblemished,
Save for the prints of wandering spirits
Fading in the gentle cascade.

A Visit from St. Nicholas
Clement Clarke Moore (1779-1863)

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads;
And Mama in her kerchief and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters, and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave the luster of midday to objects below,
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his reindeer they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
"Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer!, Now Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid!, On, Donder and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the housetop the reindeer they flew,
With a sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas, too.

And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof,
The prancing of reindeer and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dreßed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes - how they twinkled! His dimples - how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow;

He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.

A wink of his eye, and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk,
And laying a finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

"A Little Bit Of Heaven"
Those little Irish Leprechauns
are known for the Pot o' Gold;
They and they alone do know
the place it is, I'm told.

Instead of dropping coins for us
to lead us so we'd know,
They played a leprechaun's Irish trick
and dropped a ton of snow!
Now how would they like it on their Emerald Isle
if we blew the snow their way?
Not very charitable am I, you say,
on this, St. Paddy's day?
"Oh, a little bit of heaven
fell from out the sky one day"
All white and heavy, packed with ice,
in a divilish-sort of way.
With each and every shovel I lifted,
I heard a tinkling giggle;
The little folk had played their prank
and now out of it, I had to wriggle.
So now the snow is piled high
and the wee folk had their fun,
I see a glint - a golden ray -
just mirrored from the sun.
They're having the last laugh as they go,
all wearing an impish smile;
I'll welcome them again, next year
if they'll come that extra mile.
If I could choose one place on earth,
to visit for a day,
'Twould be the Emerald Isle, for sure -
to hear them sing their way.
They all have voices that float on air,
as sweet as sweet can be;
Tis sure they'd "steal my heart away"
with the beautiful "Rose of Tralee".

The Magic of Winter
Winter and snow is a child's delight - things dreamed of in July;
Sleds and hills, squeals and spills, waving, as the world rushes by.
There is snow on the ground, snow in the air, snow, snow everywhere.
Angels they make in the blanket of white, and tomorrow will remember how
Snowflakes felt on their tiny tongues - like magic to them now.
There is snow on the ground, snow in the air, snow, snow everywhere.
Snow-people are made and all decked out with colours and a happy smile;
Forts are built with utmost care so they will last awhile.
There is snow on the ground, snow in the air, snow, snow everywhere.
Snowballs rolled and piled with glee; tots laughing merrily;
Adults watch, remembering - secrets bubbling free.
There is snow on the ground, snow in the air, snow, snow everywhere.
Skiers fly the well-packed slopes, independence lighting their eyes;
Blending with snow as they descend like magic from the skies.
There is snow on the ground, snow in the air, snow, snow everywhere.
The ice is cleared so skaters glide and maybe spin a dream
Of triple loops and a sharp edge and costumes of gold and cream
There is snow on the ground, snow in the air, snow, snow everywhere.
At the end of the day all tucked away, they dream of flakes of white
Floating from heaven, in a musical dance - an innocent child's insight.
There is snow on the ground, snow in the air, snow, snow, EVERYWHERE!

Falling Snow
Author unknown

See the pretty snowflakes
Falling from the sky;
On the walk and housetops
Soft and thick they lie.

On the window-ledges
On the branches bare;
Now how fast they gather,
Filling all the air.

Look into the garden,
Where the graß was green;
Covered by the snowflakes,
Not a blade is seen.

Now the bare black bushes
All look soft and white.
Every twig is laden-
What a pretty sight!

One little snowflake with nothing to do.
Along came another and
Then there were two.

Two little snowflakes laughing with me.
Along came another, and
Then there were three.

Three little snowflakes looking for some more.
Along came another, and
Then there were four.

Four little snowflakes dancing a jive.
Along came another, and
Then there were five.

Five little snowflakes having so much fun.
Out came the sun, and
Then there were none!

WINTER.

I am Winter full of woe,
I am the season that is oh-so-slow!
White! White everywhere!
The only type of weather I have is fair
Snow on top of mountains,
Frozen water in the fountains.
Snow and Ice help me on my quest,
To try and make me the very best.
Spring and Summer are my worst foes,
I hate them so bad I melt my own snow!
Autumn is okay, He is my best friend,
Our friendship won't ever have an end.
Frost is the twin brother of Ice,
He has a temper as hot as spice!
Well, I am sorry I have to go,
The sun is starting to melt my snow!

A Special Garden
Fields of joyous, dancing colour -
flowers of different size;
A fragrant blaze of vivid splendour
is the garden I visualize.
Beguiling wild-flowers span the horizon -
nature's own selection;
Elegant, demure, bold, and airy -
magnificent perfection.
Cascading o'er an imaginary arch,
delicate roses grace
The heart of floral heaven, as each
shows its glorious face.
This is a special garden
to those who step apart;
Anything is possible in the
garden of the heart.

Christmas Bells
gif
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1864)
clr gif

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till ringing, singing on its way,
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime,
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound
The carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

It was as if an earthquake rent
The hearth-stones of a continent,
And made forlorn
The households born
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head;
“There is no peace on earth,” I said;
“For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men.”

This Winter
gif
by Charles Mariano
clr gif

I suppose, with the wind and rain outside, and more to come, we’ve cocooned with blankets, warm fires. I suppose, like the change of season, freezing cold, instead of sun, inward, instead of outward, the season of that endless war, killer hurricanes, loved ones lost, I’ll just turn the page, start over.

I’ve often wondered if I’m a winter writer, rather than summer. Throw on thick sweaters, coats, gloves and trek high up the mountain to my tower, to “bear” for winter. One small, frosty window to look out. “Countless tales,” I write in my journal shivering, “layers of rain, snow, and wind, to overcome.”

It is this imagination that binds. Pen in hand, fingers spread evenly on a keyboard. Wipe the frost, find the pulse. Tell them what ails, or inspires. Reveal the colors, be it agony, intense and miserably cold, or thoughts of romance, desires, engulfed or enflamed by simple candlelight. Set the temperature and tone, open the page, begin.

I suppose, from my mountain view, the lights below, mere weeks before Christmas, that I’ve got something significant to share. A vast landscape, glistening jewels of light, smoke billowing from thousands of chimneys. Don’t know, can’t tell yet. Maybe nothing.

I stroke my long beard, smoke my pipe, pull the flaps of my hat lower. We are, the words of every season, all of us, to our last breath, touching hearts and souls, scribbling blindly, breathlessly, designing, building, hunkering down.

But all is silent, save the wind, howling at my back.

Look, tell them of the pain of death, so recently endured, what my eyes have seen, tortured, beaten, abused. Tell them of flying high above the fray, a view so magnificent, it begs to say, to express, to share. Create an unforgettable character, that mighty hero of mind and heart that gives, saves, knows all. One who carries us to that tearful page of victory. Lie down here, another blanket to keep warm.

I suppose, there is no greatness, not now, perhaps later, but we trudge through, press on. Every day, every season, different.

High above the howling storm, frost on my beard, eyes searching wanefully to heartfelt losses, human touch. Seasons that follow, lead, churn deeply. Imagination does not go cold. Or does it? Here, take this pen, write it. Eyes, alive and moving beyond the snow, conjuring winters across the ridge, snowflakes dreamily to the page.

We’re not gone, only adjusting, acclimating, different sights and sounds, binding. Takes time to see, peel the layers, undress. There is nothing to say, not yet, the world at our feet.

“Countless tales,” I write, “layers of snow and wind, to overcome.”

Advendscalender 2008 Sleigh
This Is The Year

This is the year to follow your dream;

take a step to make it come true.

This is the year to leave troubles behind

and focus on good things to do.

This is the year you have waited for -

a year to feel happy and free;

This is the year to listen and learn -

the year for you to be!

This is the year you will feel yourself smile

and remember life is to live;

This is the year you will see all around

and know how it feels to give.

This is the year you will touch someone's heart,

reach out and you will see -

This is the year for dreams to come true;

This is the year to be!

Advendscalender 2008 Snow-globe_4

’Twas just this time, last year, I died.
I know I heard the Corn,
When I was carried by the Farms —
It had the Tassels on —

I thought how yellow it would look —
When Richard went to mill —
And then, I wanted to get out,
But something held my will.

I thought just how Red — Apples wedged
The Stubble’s joints between —
And the Carts stooping round the fields
To take the Pumpkins in —

I wondered which would miss me, least,
And when Thanksgiving, came,
If Father’d multiply the plates —
To make an even Sum —

And would it blur the Christmas glee
My Stocking hang too high
For any Santa Claus to reach
The Altitude of me —

But this sort, grieved myself,
And so, I thought the other way,
How just this time, some perfect year —
Themself, should come to me —

Advendscalender 2008 Wishing-happy-holidays-2

Candles are a gift of light,
A tiny sun, a bit of star.
No other dancer in the night
Dances with such sheer delight,
Little souls serene and bright,
Each a glimpse of what we are
Shining innocent and pure.

Advendscalender 2008 Peace-to-you

Make it Snow !

Immensity cloistered in thy dear womb,
Now leaves His well-belov'd imprisonment,
There He hath made Himself to His intent
Weak enough, now into the world to come;
But O, for thee, for Him, hath the inn no room?
Yet lay Him in this stall, and from the Orient,
Stars and wise men will travel to prevent
The effect of Herod's jealous general doom.
Seest thou, my soul, with thy faith's eyes, how He
Which fills all place, yet none holds Him, doth lie?
Was not His pity towards thee wondrous high,
That would have need to be pitied by thee?
Kiss Him, and with Him into Egypt go,
With His kind mother, who partakes thy woe.

All Those Amazing Dreams
by
Alan Williams

All those amazing dreams
And now the stillness of this place
Here my life will start anew
And time be measured from this day

This was not the plan
Not here, not in this humble shed
That somehow seems so perfect now
A sweet celestial irony

Who were those people here?
How could they know the time the place?
To seek a child who no one knows
And kneel before his lowly bed

And such a child as this
Whose eyes it seems I've always known
A smile that tells me everything
Without the need to tell me why

My love says not a word
Too busy living in his head
Anxious, bewildered and afraid
Yet proud and steadfast, come what may

Whatever lies ahead
The hand of God must have its way
This story is so wonderful
That it can only end in tears

The good old days

Remember the good old days we spent
Snowballs, your face, and the gifts.
Laughers, tid-bits
Those long hours waiting for Santa,
And the gifts He left for us
Merry-making, friends, and the Church
Remembering the good old days, and an old friend like you
In the best of spirit
And wish you a very happy Christmas

Advendscalender 2008 Jesus-reason-season

Christmas is here

A good time is coming, I wish it were here,
The very best time in the whole of the year;
I'm counting each day on my fingers and thumbs --
the weeks that must pass before Santa Claus comes.

Then when the first snowflakes begin to come down,
And the wind whistles sharp and the branches are brown,
I'll not mind the cold, though my fingers it numbs,
For it brings the time nearer when Santa Claus comes.
